Eye Examinations

At Millicans & Mansfield, we’re more than just an optician—we’re part of the Wells community. Our story began as two local practices: Millicans Eye Centre and Mansfield Opticians. Each built on a proud legacy of local service and professional expertise, we joined together under one roof at 65 High Street in 2023.

Our commitment to personalised service remains at the heart of everything we do. We know that visiting the optician can sometimes feel like just another appointment, but we want it to be something different—a place where you’re treated like a person, not a number.

Comprehensive Eye Health Checks

Our experienced optometrists carry out full eye examinations tailored to you. Alongside testing your eyesight, we use advanced tools like:

  • OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography): This painless scan provides detailed 3D images of the retina, Which could help us detect early signs of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic eye disease.
  • Optos Ultra-Widefield Imaging: Offering a wide view of the back of your eye in a single image, this technology helps identify eye problems that might not be visible through traditional methods.
  • Axial Length Measurement: For children and young people with progressing myopia (short-sightedness), we measure the length of the eye to monitor changes closely. This is essential in managing myopia and preventing future complications. Learn more on our Myopia Control page.

Why Regular Eye Exams Matter

Many eye conditions don’t cause obvious symptoms at first. Regular check-ups can catch problems early when they’re easier to treat. Whether it’s updating your prescription or keeping an eye on your overall eye health, your appointment with us is a vital step towards clear, comfortable vision.
