Eye Examinations

Eye doctor's examination room with diagnostic equipment and eye chart

At Millicans & Mansfield, we’re more than just an optician—we’re proud to be part of the Wells community.
Our story began with two trusted local practices, Millicans Eye Centre and Mansfield Opticians, each with a strong heritage of expert care and personal service. In 2023, we brought these two practices together under one roof at 65 High Street, creating a unified space where experience meets modern eye care.

Despite our growth, one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to you. We believe visiting the optician should feel personal and reassuring—not rushed or impersonal. Here, you’re always treated as an individual, never just a number.

Our Approach to Eye Care

At Millicans & Mansfield Opticians, we believe everyone deserves the most comprehensive eye examination possible, regardless of eligibility.
Our Enhanced Eye Examination is designed to give you a deeper understanding of your eye health. With extended appointment times, our highly trained optometrists use advanced imaging technology to detect and monitor conditions with precision and clarity.
We take the time to explain your results clearly, so you feel informed and confident in making decisions about your ongoing care.

Comprehensive Eye Health Checks

Our experienced optometrists carry out full eye examinations tailored to you. Alongside testing your eyesight, we use advanced tools like:

  • Optos Ultra-Widefield Scan: Captures a detailed 200° image of your retina in a single scan.
  • OCT Scan: Provides a 3D cross-sectional view of the retina, helping detect     conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye     disease.
  • Comprehensive Eye Health & Vision Assessment: A thorough examination with one of our experienced optometrists.
  • Personalised Expert Advice: Tailored recommendations based on your vision and eye health needs.

Fees

  • Enhanced NHS Eye Examination: £60
  • Enhanced Private Eye Examination: £95
  • This is covered for patients on Eyeplan

We recommend this enhanced exam for anyone seeking a more thorough check of their eye health—particularly if you:

  • Have a family history of eye condition
  • Are over 40
  • Simply want added peace     of mind

We understand that not all of our patients can access an Enhanced Eye Examination, so we also offer a Standard Examination — a more basic screening test. This is fully funded by the NHS, or available privately for £65.
