Myopia Management & Pre-Myopia Care

Myopia, or short-sightedness, is becoming increasingly common in children and young people. If your child is developing myopia, it’s important to manage it carefully to reduce the risk of future eye health problems.
At Millicans & Mansfield, we offer the latest in myopia management, combining advanced technology with personalised care to help slow down the progression of short-sightedness.
How can we help?
We offer two leading myopia management solutions:
- MiSight® Contact Lenses: Daily disposable contact lenses clinically proven to slow the progression of myopia in children.
- MiyoSmart®: Innovative spectacle lenses designed to manage myopia progression comfortably and effectively.
- Low dose atropine: Drop therapy in selected cases. Availability depends on clinical suitability. We have close ties with consultant ophthalmologists to co-manage these cases.
Both options have been developed to slow the progression of myopia, aiming to protect your child’s vision for years to come.

Ongoing Management
A key part of managing myopia is measuring the length of the eye, known as axial length. This quick and painless test helps us understand how your child’s myopia is progressing and allows us to tailor treatment plans effectively.
We carry out this alongside specialist eye examinations.
Managing myopia is an ongoing process. Our optometrists will monitor your child’s eye health regularly using advanced technology and bespoke risk and efficacy modelling using advanced software.
Treatment is adjusted if progression is above target. It is only with measuring axial length that this can be determined. Many myopia management providers do not offer axial length analysis.
What to expect at your appointment:
- Conversation about vision, lifestyle, family history.
- Axial length, prescription & binocular vision examination.
- Bespoke risk & efficacy modelling with projected outcomes.
- Plan agreed together and review schedule set typically every 3-6 months.

FaQs
What age can we start?
Many children start between 6-14 years. Pre myopia programmes can begin earlier if risk is elevated. It is never too late to start myopia management.
How long does the myopia management last?
We expect children to remain in myopia management until they are 18 when 80% of teenagers are stable. We want to see 2 years of stability before ceasing myopia management at this age.
Is it safe?
All treatments are assessed for suitability, with hygeine coaching and regular follow up. Benefits and risks are always explained clearly. Risk of eye infection with contact lenses is extremely low.
How much does it cost?
Fees vary by treatment type. An initial consultation with our specialists is £80. If you choose to proceed with treatment this fee and all future appointment fees are covered under Eyeplan at 12pcm.
